Comparisons are abound; King of the Cage – UFC, TNA-WWE, AHL NHL. No disrespect to Alexander Giroux, Corey Locke or Darren Haydar, but Winnipeg hockey fans can finally get excited about seeing the best players in the world. Instead of having to watch Sergei Shirokov or Nolan Baumgartner every night, now they can watch Dustin Byfuglien, Andrew Ladd or Evander Kane.
This season at the MTS Center, Jets fans will see Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin and Steven Stamkos 8 times this year. Original six teams, Rangers, Bruins, Leafs and Habs come in 8 times as well. I’m sure those old Manitoba Moose season ticket holders would rather see the New York Islanders, after seeing Haydar and Giroux too much over the past decade.
For now and up until training camp, the Jets fans can play arm chaired general manager. Eventually the team will make a trade and it will analyzed until the cows come home. For most fans the reality has already kicked in, while others still won’t believe it until the actual puck in dropped. Come October 8th versus Montreal, it will become the main event of the evening.
