When the Jets returned to Winnipeg, everyone knew they'd have one year in the Eastern Conference, hosting the likes of Pittsburgh, Toronto and Washington twice a year. Today some reports indicate that the Jets will be playing out of the Central Division (Western Conference) starting in 2012.
This much expected move means the Crosby's and Ovechkin will be coming to town once a year or so. The benefit of the move is Winnipeg's favourite son Jonathan Toews and the Chicago Blackhawks will be coming to town at least 3 times a year.
It's expected the conference will see Minnesota, Dallas and the Hawks... with the fifth team possibly being St.Louis, Columbus or Nashville.
This is subject to change, mainly because it's likely Phoenix will relocate. As an example, if they were to relocate to Kansas City, it would make sense to have the Blues and K.C in the Central along with Hawks, Wild and Jets. Other possible destinations for Phoenix is Hartford, Quebec or Southern Ontario, with an outside chance Seattle can get a team.
